GIVING HOPE
With your €25 donation, the money collected by the JGI-Austria will go towards helping the Batwa Pygmies - an indigenous people that traditionally lived a semi-nomadic, “hunter-gatherer” existence, depending solely on the resources of the mountain forests of the Lake Region in SW Uganda, which they called home for over 4,000 years. When the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park was created in 1991, the Batwa were forcibly evicted, and having no title to any land and given no compensation, suddenly found themselves out in the open, with some forced into new settlements on the fringes of the now gazetted and protected forests, while others were forced to move to urban areas. The Batwa became conservation refugees. The proceeds from the DVD will fund the construction of four new classrooms so the Batwa children will for the first time be able to pass through the schooling system in one, fixed location, provide much needed school supplies and create an organic garden.
