Erfahrungsbericht eines Lehrers zum Workshop

Mag. Christian Handler, GRG Sachsenbrunn schrieb zur Idee der Projektwoche: "When I learned about the 'roots and shoots' projects I was impressed by
the idea. As a teacher of English and Geography I like the idea of a
global perspective and a better understanding of the natural and the human
world. I think it is essential that young people are confronted with an
outlook that goes beyond their daily routines. And then of course they can
become active themselves in the spirit of Jane Goodall, who has set a
powerful example through her life and work, which is offering inspiration
and hope of a positive future on our planet. I'm looking forward to the
project of the 8B, GRG Sachsenbrunn later this fall."

Nach der Woche sendete er uns folgendes begeisterte Feedback: "As I could already sense at the presentation, you managed to create a
relaxed and inspiring atmosphere the students really enjoyed. They also
mentioned the much support you gave them concerning their individual
topics. It is amazing how big your wealth and diversity experience is.
What they also pointed out was the technical insight they got and what
they learned about the art of film making. Besides, many enjoyed the fact
that they could really use English most of the time. Some even mentioned
that they started dreaming in English (during the night). I hope that
especially producing a film made many of them focus on the message of
their special interest, which will also be rewarding for their matura skills."

Gregory Kennedy-Salemi

Gregory Kennedy-Salemi is a film maker and the Global Education Coordinator, for the JGI “Seeds Of Change” program and regularly conducts Global Education English project weeks throughout Austria and truly loves working with engaged teachers and students. Gregory studied computer science, international relations and peace studies at DePaul University, Chicago. Simultaneously Gregory worked as a Unix and Linux systems manager for MTI Technology. In 2006 Gregory was invited to the United Nations to speak on the importance of Global Education. During our English Project Weeks we use English as a tool instead of learning a language for the sake of it. It becomes a medium for students to use while actively creating film projects and exploring real world issues that affect us all. It's English with a meaningful purpose that inspires youth to actively pursue new goals with confidence. And we have discovered that when students have the chance to participate in real-world projects using our professional equipment in another language, they gain tremendous confidence.

Stuart Jolley

Stuart Jolley's is a film maker and New Media Coordinator for the JGI “Seeds of Change” program. Stuart's role as New Media Coordinator stands proudly alongside his life-long passion and profession as a Cameraman, Editor and Sound Recordist.
